Zero Emission Transport for visitors at BMICH

A fleet of four electric three wheelers powered by solar energy was deployed for use for the visitors of the BMICH recently. These electric three wheelers, named as E- trikes are a part of a Korean Energy Agency’s assistance to Sri Lanka through the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Power & Energy.

The project was designed to utilize the existing solar PV installation at BMICH to operate an electric vehicle charging station. The four E- trikes will be initially used to provide in- compound transport to visitors, as BMICH is a facility which spans a large extent of land.

Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Transportation, Power and Energy and Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, State Minister of Power along with Dr. Asanka Rodrigo Director General, Sustainable Energy Authority and Mr. Minjae Kang representing Korea Energy Agency participated at the handing over ceremony. Mr. Sunil Dissanayake, Director / Chief Executive, BMICH accepted the E- trikes on behalf of the BMICH.

BMICH – Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark hosted MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conventions & Exhibitions) agents from Australia, India China & Singapore on a familiarization tour of the extensive facilities available at South Asia’s largest, purpose-built convention center recently. These MICE agents represent travel and event management companies based in Australia, China, Singapore and India. The agents were received and hosted by the leadership team of BMICH.

“With convenient flight connections to Colombo from Australia, China, Singapore and India these are important markets for our conventions, conferences, exhibitions & events business. The advantage for booking the BMICH is that we handle events on a “Turn Key” basis which includes airline reservations, Ground Transport, Hotel Reservations & introduction to local event management companies based on the request of the event organizer”, said Sunil Dissanayake, Director / Chief Executive of the BMICH.

The MICE agents were given a comprehensive tour of the 21 indoor and 12 outdoor venues available at BMICH.  At the end of the guided tours of the venues, each MICE agent was presented with a Sri Lankan memento as a souvenir of the visit.

“We are impressed by the comprehensive facilities, services and the landscaping at BMICH which position the BMICH at the same level of any international convention center in the region. The friendly and helpful staff would no doubt help to make any event a success too” said one visiting agent representing the MICE market in Australia.

After the tour, Director/Chief Executive of BMICH expressed confidence that the MICE agents would upon returning to their countries will be in a position to promote to host meetings, seminars, conferences and weddings for their valuable clients at the BMICH in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

BMICH Spearheads “Go-Green” Initiatives with Urban Forest Concept & Waste Recycling

BMICH – Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark spearheaded its “Go-Green” initiative with a comprehensive programme for recycling waste and planting saplings to create an “Urban Forest” concept.

“This initiative will be a contribution by BMICH towards making Colombo, Sri Lanka and the world a better place to live for the current and future generations” said Sunil Dissanayake – Chief Executive/Director, BMICH.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, all of us at BMICH are committed to this ‘Go-Green’ initiative” he added.

BMICH joined hands with Bank of Ceylon to plant 25 “Na” plants, the national tree of Sri Lanka, in its premises to mark the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Bank of Ceylon as the “Go-Green” initiative. These plants will add to the already existing, extensive range of different varieties of trees with the objective of making the BMICH landscape as an “Urban Forest”.

BMICH also initiated a programme to collect and convert food waste from its many restaurants and kitchens and other waste from the gardens into compost at the in-house compost plant using the Japanese “Thakakura” method.  The conversion process takes approx. 3 weeks from collection to compost. The compost, which is odorless, is then used as fertilizer for the upkeep of the luscious trees and greenery in the gardens and lawns at the BMICH premises. Any excess compost is earmarked for sale to the outside market bringing in additional income. BMICH also contributes to its green initiatives by segregating and selling plastic, polythene and PET bottles which are collected during the many events held at its premises.

The BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognizable and iconic landmark won the Award for the “Leading Convention Center 2019” at the prestigious South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) Ceremony held in Galle, Sri Lanka recently. This award is the fourth Travel Award won by BMICH in four years. SATA, endorsed by multinational associations, recognizes the Tourism sector in the South Asian Region based on their facilities and service excellence. The South Asian Travel Awards aims to encourage and raise service standards of the Travel & MICE industries in the region.

BMICH Welcomes 35 Indian MICE Travel Agents on Venue Tour

BMICH welcomed a team of 35 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) travel agents from India recently who visited Sri Lanka.  The visit was to ascertain and familiarize themselves with the facilities offered by BMICH for conferences, destination weddings and special events.

“India being one of the largest MICE markets, we want to promote BMICH on “TURN KEY” basis, as a convenient and exotic location with a multitude of state of the art facilities from conference venues, entertainment and gastronomic delights for the Indian corporate sector to host their corporate events as well as for the discerning Indian travelers to celebrate their weddings and special events” said Sunil Dissanayake-Chief Executive/Director, BMICH, who invited the Indian MICE Agents to visit the iconic landmark.

The 35 MICE agents were given a comprehensive tour of the 33 venues (21 indoor & 12 outdoor) available at BMICH and each MICE agent was presented with a Sri Lankan memento as a souvenir of the visit and the tour of the BMICH.
