BMICH Hosts Pakistan Lifestyle Exposition

BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognizable and iconic landmark hosted a group of 150 Pakistani lifestyle exhibitors from 15 – 19 February providing an opportunity for Sri Lankans to get a glimpse of the vibrant colours, products, and culture offered by Pakistan. The exhibitors stayed for a total of 10 days in the country, which is 1500 room nights as a direct result of the exposition, providing a boost to tourism. Their accompanying family members travelled within the country during the period of their stay in Sri Lanka. The exhibition stalls included traditional Pakistani clothes, homeware, jewellery, shoes, hand crafted items, food and a wide range of beauty products.

“We are delighted to have hosted the exposition which saw a stream of enthusiastic shoppers visiting the exposition and obtaining a first-hand experience of Pakistani high quality products,” said Sunil Dissanayake – Chief Executive, BMICH.

“We would like to thank the Department of Commerce and Department of Imports & Exports Control for their help and support extended clearing the exhibitor consignments expeditiously and without hassle,” added Devanthi Ambuldeniya – Head of Business Development/Reservations & Events.

Set in a sprawling site, 15 well laid out and spacious car parks that can accommodate 3000 vehicles at a given time, and well-maintained landscaped gardens, BMICH is Sri Lanka’s largest and Asia’s very first purpose-built convention center with ultra-modern facilities. BMICH is situated in one of the most prestigious locations in Colombo. BMICH won the South Asian Travel Award (SATA) Gold in 2016, Silver in 2017, and Gold again in 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2022. In 2016 BMICH also won the Quality ERA Geneva Gold Award and the Platinum Award in Paris in 2017.

BMICH, an iconic landmark venue on the island, blended its voice with the sonorous Christmas carols that echoed from all corners of the country, during the recently passed Christmas Season. “A Night of Carols,” which was organised by the BMICH staff, was unveiled at the BMICH Exposition Centre on 22 and 24, December 2022, coinciding with the Singer Christmas Shopping Fiesta.

In fact, it is noteworthy that the choir compromised 30 members of the BMICH staff representing multi-religious denominations, volunteered with enthusiasm to make this event a success. The choir was able to catch the spirit of the season in their fine melody and thus attracted a large audience from among the visitors at the Colombo Shopping Fiesta.

The carols were played for around an hour, filling the ambience with the cheer and sparkle of the Christmas season adding vibrancy to the already vivid BMICH environ. The chief organiser of the event Head of Human Resource Management, Nilmala Angulugaha extended her sincere thanks to every stakeholder who took part in making the event a success. “On behalf of the BMICH, I am pleased to acknowledge our sincere gratitude to all those who immensely contributed to bring this event into being. We wish everyone a happy and prosperous year ahead!” she added.

BMICH – Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark has been crowned as the Gold Award winner in the Leading Convention Center category of the prestigious 2022 South Asian Travel Awards (SATA). This award recognizes Sri Lanka as the premium Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Expositions (MICE) destination in the South Asian region. The SATA Awards Ceremony was held at the Adaaran Select Hotel Hudhuran Fushi Resort in the Republic of Maldives on 30th September 2022. This is the 5th consecutive occasion that the BMICH has been presented with the Gold award as the Leading Convention Center in South Asia at the SATA awards and the 7th international award won by BMICH since 2015.

Previously BMICH was recognized for the International Quality Era Award in Geneva in 2016 and in Paris in 2017 and BWIO Platinum award of honor for “The Most Outstanding Service Excellence Organization for the Year – 2020”.

BMICH – POWERED BY ZERO EMISSION TRANSPORT

The four E-Trikes donated by the Korean Energy Agency.

A fleet of four electric three wheelers powered by solar energy was deployed for use of the visitors of the BMICH which was donated by Korean Energy Agency as assistance to Sri Lanka through the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority.

The project was designed to utilize the existing solar PV installation at BMICH to operate an electric vehicle charging station.

The four E- trikes will be initially used to provide in- compound transport to visitors as BMICH is a facility which spans a large extent of land.

BMICH Launches “Dahami Govithanin Yahapath Sanskruthiyak”

Hon Minister Vidura Wickramanayake symbolically planting a sapling to inaugurate the “Dahami Govithanin Yahapath Sanskruthiyak”

BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognizable and iconic landmark will cultivate one acre of land on its Colombo 7 property with paddy at the Kamatha and other crops such as Brinjal, Bitter gourd, Ridged Gourd, Radish, Winged Bean, Ladies Finger, Long Bean, Tomato, Ginger, Turmeric, Manioc, Kiri Ala etc, as their contribution to the ongoing national effort to increase food production towards strengthening food security. The land has been identified for cultivation as part of the BMICH’s efforts to cultivate crops.

The launching ceremony of the BMICH “Dahami Govithanin Yahapath Sanskruthiyak” was held recently at the BMICH Picnic Park premises with the participation of Chief Guest Hon. Vidura Wickramanayake – Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs, Mr. Somaratna Vidanapathirana – Secretary, Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs, Sunil Dissanayake – Chief Executive, BMICH together with other officials of the Ministry as well as BMICH Leadership team, Staff, Tenant’s staff, Service provider staff and the BMICH Police.

“We are delighted to be involved with this initiative to contribute towards increasing the production of paddy and other food crops at our very own property at the BMICH. Organic fertilizer has been produced since 2019 with the organic waste generated at BMICH premises which will be utilized for the cultivation. The BMICH team looks forward to making a positive contribution to increase food production amidst the current economic environment” said Sunil Dissanayake – Chief Executive BMICH at the launch of the “Dahami Govithanin Yahapath Sanskruthiyak” initiative.
