BMICH Triumphs at SATA with “Leading Convention Center Award 2019”

The BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognizable and iconic landmark won the Award for the “Leading Convention Center 2019” at the prestigious South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) Ceremony held in Galle, Sri Lanka recently. This award is the fourth Travel Award won by BMICH in four years. SATA, endorsed by multinational associations, recognizes the Tourism sector in the South Asian Region based on their facilities and service excellence. The South Asian Travel Awards aims to encourage and raise service standards of the Travel & MICE industries in the region.

The South Asia Travel Awards is the first of its kind for the travel, tourism and venues sector and has many affiliations with leading regional associations. The process of selecting winners is thus a transparent procedure. SATA is a concept of Maldivian company “Highrise”.

The panel of judges comprised of high profile, senior representatives from each travel destination in the region with a vast knowledge and background of the industry to assure an accurate and fair process of selecting the winners. The event consisted of 50 categories and BMICH in Sri Lanka was named as the Leading Meeting & Convention Venue for the year 2019.

BMICH Welcomes 35 Indian MICE Travel Agents on Venue Tour

BMICH welcomed a team of 35 MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) travel agents from India recently who visited Sri Lanka.  The visit was to ascertain and familiarize themselves with the facilities offered by BMICH for conferences, destination weddings and special events.

“India being one of the largest MICE markets, we want to promote BMICH on “TURN KEY” basis, as a convenient and exotic location with a multitude of state of the art facilities from conference venues, entertainment and gastronomic delights for the Indian corporate sector to host their corporate events as well as for the discerning Indian travelers to celebrate their weddings and special events” said Sunil Dissanayake-Chief Executive/Director, BMICH, who invited the Indian MICE Agents to visit the iconic landmark.

The 35 MICE agents were given a comprehensive tour of the 33 venues (21 indoor & 12 outdoor) available at BMICH and each MICE agent was presented with a Sri Lankan memento as a souvenir of the visit and the tour of the BMICH.

A participating MICE agent said “BMICH is a wonderful venue and the biggest in South East Asia which offers a full array of facilities and infrastructure to host mega corporate events.  Furthermore, Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with friendly and helpful people which makes BMICH an ideal venue”.

BMICH Staff Welfare Association Wins Award for CSR Initiative

BMICH receiving the Award at the World Blood Donation Day celebrations 

The Staff Welfare Association of the BMICH Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark, received an Award with a Certificate of Appreciation from the National Blood Transfusion Service recently for taking the initiative of organizing successful mobile blood donation campaigns. The Award category was “Mobile Campaign Organizer”.

The mobile blood donation campaign was held in conjunction with the World Blood Donation Day on the 14th of June 2019 at the Main Conference and Concert Hall of the BMICH. The Guest of Honor at the ceremony was Minister of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine-Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

“As a responsible corporate entity, we engage in many CSR activities and we encourage our staff to voluntarily participate in such initiatives to give back to society. Donating blood is a meritorious act, where each drop goes into saving a life” said Sunil Dissanayake-Chief Executive of BMICH.

BMICH – Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark organized a special programme at its premises on International Women’s Day to celebrate and acknowledge the many women who contribute to making it one of the most sought after award winning venue in South Asia. The special Women’s Day programme was held with the active and enthusiastic participation of all female employees at BMICH.

“We are delighted to have a strong and dedicated female workforce at BMICH who contribute to our successes on a daily basis, and we admire their courage and commitment to help achieve our goals. BMICH has a unique affiliation with women with two of Sri Lanka’s leading personalities – Late Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the first female Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and the world who was also the founding Chairperson of BMICH and Madam Chandrika Kumaratunga, the first female President of Sri Lanka who is also the current Chairperson of the BMICH Board of Management, both being of iconic significance to our country as well as globally” said Sunil Dissanayake-Chief Executive, BMICH in his address.

After the inauguration ceremony, the main speaker Ms. Salome Senaratne – Human Resources Director, ITC Colombo One Hotel & Residences addressed the participants on personality development, how to successfully face challenges, importance of education, leading a healthy life and how to effectively manage time. She also spoke of her life experiences and challenges she faced to reach the pinnacle of her chosen career while successfully balancing her family life which was an inspiration for all.

BMICH, Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark, closed the year 2018 with many successes and accolades under its hat including the prestigious Sri Lanka Tourism Best MICE Venue of the Year Award and SATA (South Asia Travel Awards) Gold Award for South Asia’s Leading Meeting & Convention Venue.

The BMICH was privileged to host over 7 Million visitors to its premises while hosting many international and local exhibitions, events, conventions and wedding ceremonies in 2018. BMICH was also the venue of choice for many corporate and public sector organizations to host their events. The Colombo International Book Fair & Exhibition which is an annual event held at the BMICH witnessed over 100,000 visitors each day over 10 days amounting to over 1 Million visitors.
